Kin Opens in the Pearl

With new Portland restaurants opening faster than our weary forks can cry uncle, it took us a few weeks to get round to Kevin Shikami's new Pearl District eatery, Kin , which quietly opened on NW 14th Avenue nearly a month ago. After devouring three orders of the pork belly buns, two duck confit ramens, one seared ostrich (or part of him, anyway), and all of the delicious $6 desserts, we're heaping full-bellied praise on Kin...and its sailing twigs. With almost two weeks of summer behind us, we're well into one of the most important seasons of the year--Rosé Season. This past Monday, a bevy of lively pink wine-loving ladies convened to conduct a rosé tasting complete with six vibrant Oregon rosés, triple créme Bries and strawberry tartlets, tales of the Bradley Cooper that got away, and six-bottle philosophizing.  After a long wait for Coalition Brewing Company to open on SE Ankeny & SE 28th, Buckman neighborhood beer drinkers got their wish last week. With four beers on tap and a geographically diverse wine list, a rotating Coalator Program that helps promote Portland home brewers, a full menu that includes tasty Pacific Pie Company pasties, and shady sidewalk tables, Coalition is shaping up to be a Southeast summer hangout.
